Why AV Security Suite Keeps Reinfecting or Coming Back? Even After I Removed …Internet Explorer Unable to Connect, or Google Searches Redirected
With recent roguewares spreading like forest fire infesting PCs, legitimate antivirus and antimalware programs are required to constantly update to get rid of complex malicious trojans.
Of late roguewares such as Protection Center and AV Security Suite are such a pain in the a**. PC experts are suggesting combination of malware removal tools and manually editing registry keys to get rid of these complex roguewares such as the recent AV Security trojan.
Here is the mail from Richard, TX.
“I earlier had a Google re-direct issue which I was able to overcome using TDSSkill. However, soon after re-setting my computer, after having solved this issue, an AV Security Suite window popped up. I immediately tried running rkill.exe and received an error message stating that rkill.exe had been infected.
I then restarted the machine in Safe Mode and ran a MalwareBytes full-scan, which found no Malware running. “I then followed the instructions outlined and used ATF-Cleaner and SUPERAntiSpyware in the manner decribed. The SUPERAntiSpyware scan found a single Trojan.Agent/Gen-Frauder.
I ran MalwareByte again (Full-Scan) in Safe-Mode and found 2 infected registry keys, both in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware (avsot and avsuite) that were quarantined and deleted successfully.
After re-starting the machine, the AV Security Suite popped up again. This time, I was able to find a process from the Windows Task Manager named aeedfw.exe. Since I didn’t recognize it I stopped the process and the AV Security Suite pop-up immediately disappered. Now, however, although I am able to run Internet Explorer, it is unable to connect to any web-site and gives me an error as if I was not connected to the network.
Each time I re-start, I see this aeedfw.exe process running, immediately kill it via the Windows Task Manager, and am unable to connect to the Internet via Internet Explorer. I know that I have a valid network connection since I am able to used SSH to connect sucessfully.
Any help or guidance anyone can provide me with on fixing this issue would be very much appreciated.”
The problem here is AV Security Suite changed the HOSTS File, or change in Proxy Settings.
The HOSTS file is used to translate a host name to an IP (Internet Protocol) address without querying the DNS (Domain Name System) server.
For example, suppose you would like to search the web using Google. You start your browser and enter the ‘www.google.com’ host name. Communication on the Internet is based on IP addresses rather than host names, so behind the scenes the operating system checks if the HOSTS file has a mapping for www.google.com to an IP address. If there’s no mapping in the HOSTS file the operating system queries the DNS server that returns 64.233.183.99 – which is Google’s IP address – and then the browser requests Google’s search page.
Blocking unwanted content
The HOSTS file is often used to block potentially unwanted content, such as advertisements, cookies, hijackers, spyware, adware, pornography, etc.
If you know the host name of the machine that serves the unwanted content, you can redirect it to 127.0.0.1, which is the local IP address of your machine. For example, assume you have redirected the ad.doubleclick.net ad server to 127.0.0.1. Every time your browser tries to load an image or a flash animation from the ad.doubleclick.net ad server, it will be redirected to your machine instead. As a result, the browser will not be able to show any content from this ad server.
Notification of blocked content
Unfortunately, there’s no user-friendly notification when the HOSTS file blocks a site. In fact, Internet Explorer users will only get a general ‘The page cannot be displayed’ message, assuming you are not running a local web server. The same message appears when a web site is unavailable for other reasons that HOSTS file blocking.
The HOSTS file is named ‘hosts’ and editable with any text editor, such as Notepad or Wordpad.
The file generally appears at:
•’C:WindowsSystem32DriversEtchosts’ on Windows XP
Before editing, backup the current HOSTS file. You need to delete all the lines from this hosts file except “127.0.0.1 localhost”. The other entires you saw there need to be removed as they are malicious. (This is why IE unable to connect, because the HOSTS file block the huge list of websites…and you get a warning that “The Page cannot be displayed”)
After removing the entries from hosts file, please save this file and close it.
Now you should be able to search on Google without any problem. Once you are able to the restore your computer’s functionality, please get a good anti-spyware software which provides real time shield.

| | Hitler’s Personal Security $16.48 "I am immortal!" exulted Hitler in the wake of the failed assassination plot of July 20, 1944. As Peter Hoffmann shows in this startling book, that bombing was only the best known of more than thirty attempts on Hitler’s life, the first coming as early as 1921, when he was the leader of the German worker’s party. Using extensive archival material, Hoffmann details these assassination plots and outlines the fanatically complex security measures that developed to keep Hitler safe. He analyzes Hitler’s SS escort and the other security groups responsible for his life—there were so many of them that they often counteracted one another—together with their arrangements for his transportation, public appearances, residences, and wartime headquarters. Providing remarkable new information about the workings of those devoted to defending and destroying him, this book is an invaluable contribution to the history of the Third Reich. |
